Assault Firearm Transfers Ending: Due to new Virginia law (HB217/SB749), Outdoor Arms will no longer accept transfers of any firearm meeting the “assault firearm” definition on or after July 1, 2026. If you have a covered firearm in transit, it must arrive and be picked up before July 1.
Prior Authorization Required for All Transfers: Effective July 1, all incoming firearm transfers require prior coordination with Outdoor Arms. Firearms sent without prior authorization will be returned to sender. See our Transfers page for the updated process.
New Services Launching July 1: We are adding NFA Form 4 service, NFA Form 1 engraving, notary services, and electronic fingerprinting to continue serving our customers. See below for details — pricing to be announced.
Transfer Policy & Fees Effective March 15, 2026 — temporary policy while transfer volume is high
Due to record-high transfer volume and limited storage space, fees are now applied per shipment received. Each incoming shipment requires separate receiving, inspection, logging, and storage — regardless of whether items are picked up together.
| Service | What’s Included | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| First Firearm | ATF Form 4473, background check, and processing Applies to the first firearm in each shipment received | $30 |
| Each Additional Item (same shipment) |
Additional firearms arriving in the same package/shipment Items must arrive together in the same shipment to qualify | $5 each |
| Each Additional Shipment | Separate orders from different retailers, picked up at the same appointment Each additional shipment is charged at $15 base + $5 per additional item within that shipment | $15 base |
3 lowers arriving from Palmetto State Armory (one shipment) = $30 + $5 + $5 = $40
2 pistols arriving from Buds Gun Shop (separate shipment, same appointment) = $15 + $5 = $20
Total for both orders picked up together: $60
Storage Policy
Due to extremely limited vault space, we cannot provide long-term storage.
- Firearms must be picked up within 14 days of notification of arrival
- A storage fee of $5 per week will be assessed for any items held 15 days or longer and no contact or arrangements have been made with Outdoor Arms
- Please reach out if you need to make arrangements — we are happy to work with you
We cannot hold incoming shipments indefinitely to combine with future orders. Items must arrive within the same shipment to qualify for additional item pricing.

Private Party Transfer
Virginia HB1525 was signed into law on April 22, 2026. A governor’s amendment to this bill directed the Virginia State Police to resume background checks for private party firearm sales. This provision included an emergency clause, meaning it took effect immediately upon signing — not on July 1.
Background checks for private party transfers in Virginia are now again required. The VSP Firearms Transaction Program processes these checks. Private parties may no longer complete a firearm sale without going through the background check process.
HB1525 also raises the minimum age to purchase a handgun or assault firearm to 21, effective July 1, 2026.

NFA Form 1 — Engraving — pricing TBD

- Engraving must meet ATF minimum depth and size requirements
- Appointment required — contact us prior to bringing in your item
We do not currently offer engraving for non-serialized firearms. We are awaiting ATF clarification on whether a dealer-only FFL may perform this service. This will not be offered until guidance is received.
